Methyl-Life® L-Methylfolate 7.5 mg + Vitamin B12 Tablets is a therapeutic-strength, bioactive folate supplement combined with active forms of Vitamin B12, formulated to promote methylation balance, enhance cognitive clarity, and support cardiovascular wellness through healthy homocysteine metabolism.

  • Why Active Folate and Vitamin B12 Matter
    L-Methylfolate
, the active form of folate, uniquely crosses the blood–brain barrier to sustain pathways linked to memory, focus, mental clarity and mood. Our 7.5 mg strength provides effective nutritional support for individuals with moderate folate needs or genetic variants that impair folate metabolism. Methylcobalamin and Hydroxycobalamin work synergistically to optimize methylation efficiency, neurological health, and cellular energy metabolism.
  • Cardiovascular & Homocysteine Support
By supplying essential methyl groups, L-Methylfolate helps maintain balanced homocysteine levels, supporting vascular integrity and metabolic wellness. Vitamin B12 facilitates the conversion of homocysteine to methionine, further promoting cardiovascular health and optimal circulation.
  • Optimized for MTHFR Gene Variant Carriers
Many individuals carry common MTHFR gene variants (C677T, A1298C) that reduce their ability to convert folic acid into active folate. Supplementing with Methyl-Life® L-Methylfolate 7.5 mg + Vitamin B12 delivers these nutrients in fully active forms, bypassing conversion barriers and supporting DNA synthesis, methylation activity, and cellular function.
  • Research-Driven Support
The 7.5 mg dosage combined with Vitamin B12 is well-regarded for effective methylation support, helping maintain cognitive performance, emotional wellbeing, and neurological resilience. Together, folate and B12 promote DNA methylation and homocysteine balance, supporting long-term brain health and cardiovascular wellness.

It closes a hole in the product line, but could do better

This particular product is the only one with a B12 addition that excludes methylcobalamin. It has the other two, hydroxo and adenosyl. Some of us who are MTHFR have SNPs which specifically caution against too much methyl. I had been using the B12 complete, but switched to this when I learned my SNPs and I feel much better, more controlled. My brain is much more calm. I wish it was offered in different Methyl formulations though. Hence the 4 stars. I also wished it dissolved in my mouth. Its composition doesn't dissolve, but needs to be crunched. I am not sure if I should be crunching it or letting it dissolve like the other B12s so as to be absorbed by the mouth tissue.

Just as good as deplin

I love love love this product and apparently so do others because it's sold out and I desperately need more. I notice the difference this makes and it's just the right size of folate. The b12 combo in the product is very hard to find online and it's the one that works for me and my other mutations. I trust methyl-life products and have for the last ten years at least. I've been on and off Clinically-used form of active folate (my insurance covers it but the coST has tripled) and I always come back to this product line. Customer service has always been amazing.

Supports Methylation, Mood & Cellular Health

L–5–Methyltetrahydrofolate Calcium (as Calcium – Cerebrofolate®)

The centerpiece of this formula is Cerebrofolate® — a next-generation, patented form of L-Methylfolate designed for unmatched purity, potency, and bioavailability. Unlike folic acid or less stable folate compounds, Cerebrofolate® is ready-to-use, bypassing the MTHFR enzymatic block to directly support neurological, cardiovascular, and methylation pathways.

Cerebrofolate® delivers >80% free methylfolate, offering superior absorption and immediate usability compared to many other folate sources. Unlike synthetic folic acid, Cerebrofolate® does not contribute to unmetabolized folic acid accumulation, which has been associated with reduced immune efficiency and masking of B12 deficiency. L-Methylfolate supports much more than mood — it is vital for DNA synthesis and repair, detoxification, and healthy red blood cell formation. For those with MTHFR gene variants, Cerebrofolate® provides a direct pathway to active folate, helping maintain methylation efficiency and neurotransmitter support.

Backed by research: PMC3869616, PubMed 23212058, PMC5385290

Clinically tested and patented for superior purity, this bioactive form of folate bypasses genetic mutations (like MTHFR) and goes straight to work — supporting neurotransmitters, DNA repair, and a healthy mood balance.

Did You Know?

L-Methylfolate is a biologically active form of folate that the body can readily use. It supports natural processes related to neurotransmitter synthesis, including those involving serotonin, dopamine, and more. It also plays a role in homocysteine metabolism and cellular function. Adenosylcobalamin (Vitamin B12)

This mitochondria-targeted B12 powers your cells where energy is made — supporting memory, myelin formation, and neurological function. Perfect for those seeking deep cellular support.

Did You Know?

Adenosylcobalamin is one of the two metabolically active coenzyme forms of B12 and the only one directly used by mitochondria. It’s critical for the conversion of methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA, a step essential in energy metabolism. In individuals with neurological conditions or degenerative diseases, this form has been associated with better nerve repair, protection against demyelination, and cognitive support. PubMed

Frequently Asked Question

What is L Methylfolate 7.5 mg + Vitamin B12 Tablets?
L Methylfolate 7.5 mg + Vitamin B12 Tablets is a therapeutic supplement formulated to support healthy mood, cognitive function, methylation, and homocysteine levels. It contains bioactive L methylfolate as internationally-patented Magnafolate® PRO, and sublingual vitamin B12 tablet forms (hydroxy B12 and adenosylcobalamin)
How common is the MTHFR mutation?
The MTHFR mutation is more widespread than commonly realized, with approximately 50% of the global population estimated to have at least one of two common variants. Around 25% of the global population carries the MTHFR mutation C677T, with Hispanics having the highest proportion at 47%.
How is L Methylfolate 7.5 mg + Vitamin B12 Tablets different from other folate supplements?
It is uniquely formulated with Magnafolate® PRO, ensuring maximum absorption and bioavailability. Additionally, it contains active vitamin B12 sublingual tablet forms for comprehensive mood support.
How is the quality of L Methylfolate 7.5 mg + Vitamin B12 Tablets ensured?
Every single supplement batch undergoes rigorous 3rd-party testing for consistency, purity, safety, and potency to ensure maximum quality and efficacy.
My doctor said that because I have MTHFR, I should be taking methylcobalamin as my vitamin B12 form, why are you suggesting these other forms too?
One of the most common other nutrients to consider when supplementing the methylation cycle is the proper form of B12. There are 3 different types of B12 that are considered very beneficial to the body (hydroxy B12, methylcobalamin or adenosylcobalamin). Many automatically think that if you have an MTHFR defect, then you need the form of B12 called methylcobalamin, but that is simply NOT true.

It’s important to realize that the MTHFR status does not necessarily determine the type of vitamin B12 tablets that are best for you, instead it’s the status of genes like COMT, MTR, MTRR as well as VDR Taq. It is true that methylfolate and methylcobalamin work together synergistically along the methylation cycle pathway, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that if you tolerate methylfolate well you’ll also need, want or tolerate methylcobalamin well (even if that’s what most doctors, nutritionists, etc. are currently saying right now).

It seems there may be a general lack of education available to most doctors about the different forms of vitamin B12 tablets and what those forms are as well as how they get converted within the body and what each is most beneficial for (not to mention which set of genes or genetic mutations could benefit most from which B12 type). So do your homework when it comes to your vitamin B12 tablets to see which you may tolerate best.

The most common form of B12 that you’ll find everywhere is cyanocobalamin and it is not very active or beneficial to the body because the absorption rate is fairly low, that’s because the body has to convert it first into hydroxy B12, and from there the hydroxy B12 has to be converted into both adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin. But if the body has genetic mutations then these conversions don’t happen well at all and the effect is the body does not get the absorption or use of the nutrient.
What are the key benefits of L Methylfolate 7.5 mg + Vitamin B12 Tablets?
This supplement provides support for brain function, cardiovascular health, immune function, nerve function, nervous system maintenance, preconception, pregnancy, and fetal health. It also aids in reducing and maintaining healthy homocysteine levels, supports optimal DNA methylation, neurotransmitter synthesis, and can be adjunctive support for serotonin selective reuptake inhibitors.
Why is L-methylfolate important?
L-methylfolate is the biologically activated form of folate, which is essential for various biological processes, including crossing the blood-brain barrier, supporting brain function, and DNA methylation.
What if my blood serum B12 level test comes back as high, does that mean I don’t need B12?
The most important thing to realize is that blood tests for B12 are highly inaccurate at detecting actual cellular levels of B12 (meaning the B12 that’s available for the cells to use). Studies have shown that people can have high or normal B12 levels in the blood and actually show virtually no B12 in the spinal fluid, meaning the B12 is not being transported from the blood stream into the cells where it should be absorbed and used.
What does sublingual mean and why isn’t your product labeled as “sublingual”?
It’s a well-known fact that vitamin B12 does not absorb well through the gut, so taking B12 via sublingual or mouth absorption is best (holding it under the tongue or between the gums and cheek is most common). Consider some form of liquid or vitamin B12 tablets or lozenges that can be sucked on or dissolved in the mouth. Holding the vitamin B12 tablets in your mouth for at least 90 seconds is good and the longer you can leave it in your mouth, the better for sublingual absorption (as opposed to gut absorption).

Note: different manufacturers use different terms for tablets that are meant to dissolve sublingually in the mouth, but “sublingual” is considered a pharmaceutical term by the FDA, so dietary supplements are moving away from using that term. However, it doesn’t really matter what term you use (chewable tablet, lozenge, sublingual tablet, liquid, etc.) for maximum absorption the main idea is to hold it in your mouth for 90 seconds or more if you can (if you forget, don’t worry, since you’re taking the active form, your body will still get some benefit even if you swallow it whole).

Another way to absorb B12 is muscularly through shots, however, the research tells us that sublingual (or mouth) absorption is equally as effective as muscular absorption … and shots may cost significantly more money. Also, be aware with shots (many doctors still give cyanocobalamin shots) that though you may need higher doses of active B12s (like myself), you may not do well when given higher doses of cyanocobalamin in a shot because your body may not be able to do the conversions and you could have negative side effects.
I have my 23andme test results, how can I use those to know which form of vitamin B12 tablets I might best tolerate?
If you have your 23andme genetic test results, you can use those to help guide you as you try the specific B12 forms to see how they do for you. You’ll notice below that, according to Dr. Amy Yasko, the most well-tolerated active form of B12 for folks seems to be hydroxy B12. Every single one of the genetic combinations she lists below should be able to tolerate B12 in the form of hydroxy B12 (and this is why our methylation protocol suggests hydroxy B12 as the B12 form, to begin with):

↦ Folks with multiple COMT mutations tend to do very well with hydroxy B12 (it helps mop up excess peroxynitrites which can cause problems)

↦ Folks with MTR & MTRR mutations may do well with methylcobalamin & adenosylcobalamin supplementation

↦ And Dr. Amy Yasko (https://dramyyasko.com) talks about folks with a particular mutation status for COMT & VDR Taq as best needing the below forms of B12

The Science Behind

Understanding DFE Labeling for Methylfolate

What the New Numbers on Your Label Mean Now — and Why the Label Change Hasn’t Changed Your Dose

When it comes to folate supplements, labels can be misleading — not because the formulas are different, but because the rules have changed. In this video, Jamie from Methyl-Life® explains the FDA’s new requirement to use Dietary Folate Equivalents (DFE) and what that means for how folate is reported on supplement labels.

What’s this video about?: How the new FDA labeling standards affect folate supplements — and why your formula hasn’t changed, even if the number on the label looks much higher.

The Science Behind

What Makes Methyl-Life® Methylfolate Different Folate

Clinically Formulated, Quality-Tested, and Designed for Real Absorption

Not all methylfolate is created equal. In this video, Methyl-Life® founder, Jamie Hope, explains what sets their L-Methylfolate apart — from the ultra-pure form of folate used, to the strict quality testing, to the small, clean tablet design that delivers more active ingredients in a tasty way with less filler.

What’s this video about?: The research, formulation and manufacturing differences that make Methyl-Life® 's L-Methylfolate a superior choice — especially for individuals with MTHFR mutations or sensitive systems.

Why Folate Labels Now Use DFE

The FDA now requires that all folate-containing supplements list folate content in mcg DFE to account for how much folate is actually absorbed by the body, based on source.

  • Folic acid × 1.7 = mcg DFE
  • Methylfolate × 1.7 = mcg DFE

This change reflects differences in bioavailability. The folic acid nutrient, for example, has ~85% bioavailability when taken with food. However, natural food folate has only ~50% bioavailability. The DFE unit helps consumers understand how much “usable folate” they’re getting as if it were compared to eating folate from whole foods.

Example:

  • A supplement with 1,000 mcg folic acid will now be labeled as 1,700 mcg DFE.
  • A supplement with 15,000 mcg L-Methylfolate will now show 25,500 mcg DFE (or could show more, depending on the salt form used and its potency calculation).

NOTE:  this is not an increase in the dosage amount — just new math to reflect usable folate content from the same formula.

Why This Matters for Methyl-Life® Users

Methyl-Life® uses L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (L-Methylfolate) — a bioactive form of folate that does not require MTHFR conversion. Even though it’s more effective and better absorbed than folic acid, the FDA still requires methylfolate products to use the same 1.7x multiplier for DFE.

So if your bottle used to say 15,000 mcg of L-Methylfolate, and now it says 25,000-30,000 mcg DFE, just know that neither the formula nor the dose has changed — only the math has. You're still receiving 15 mg of pure L-Methylfolate, now labeled using the updated DFE format.

Why the DFE Conversion Matters Less Than the Form

DFE was designed around folic acid absorption. But Methyl-Life® uses methylfolate, which already comes in its active form and offers superior uptake — especially for those with MTHFR gene mutations.

This is supported by evidence showing that L-Methylfolate:

  • Crosses the blood–brain barrier for direct cognitive support2
  • Improves depressive symptoms when used at 15 mg/day in SSRI-resistant cases PubMed 23212058
  • Supports homocysteine metabolism to reduce cardiovascular and neurological risk PMC9832224

Why the DFE Conversion Matters Less Than the Form

DFE (Dietary Folate Equivalent) was designed around folic acid — a synthetic form that requires multiple conversion steps before it becomes usable by the body.

But Methyl-Life® uses L-methylfolate, which is already in its active form and offers superior absorption — especially for those with MTHFR gene mutations.

So while labeling has changed, nothing has changed in your supplement’s clinical or nutritional performance.

Recap: DFE Labeling Doesn’t Change the Dose

  • DFE stands for Dietary Folate Equivalent, a unit created to reflect folate’s usable potency based on absorption rates from whole foods
  • The formula is exactly the same — only the math calculation applied to the label has changed
  • Methyl-Life® continues to deliver clinically-studied L-Methylfolate at the same high-potency, now labeled to meet new DFE guidelines from the FDA

You do not need to recalculate your dose or change your usage.

What Is Methylfolate — and Why It Matters

L-Methylfolate is the active form of folate, already converted and ready for use by the body — unlike synthetic folic acid, which must go through several enzymatic steps. This distinction is especially important for individuals with MTHFR gene variants, who often cannot convert folic acid efficiently.

Instead of building up unmetabolized folic acid in the bloodstream, L-Methylfolate delivers folate that is immediately bioavailable for methylation, neurotransmitter synthesis, DNA repair, detoxification and homocysteine reduction.

What Sets Methyl-Life® Apart?

Study-proven Purest Form:  Ultra Pure Methylfolate

Methyl-Life® uses an Ultra Pure Methylfolate, a patented crystalline calcium salt form of L-Methylfolate (L-5-MTHF-Ca). This advanced form offers:

  • Higher purity and stability than competing versions like Quatrefolic®
  • Superior metabolic compatibility for those with MTHFR gene variants
  • Enhanced absorption and proven reliability

Strength Options & Dosing Flexibility

Available in 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg and 15 mg, Methyl-Life® offers full dosing flexibility to support titration protocols. For example:

  • Start with 2.5 mg if you are new to methylfolate or sensitive to methyl donors
  • Easily split the 15 mg scored tablet into a 7.5 mg dose — cost-effective and precise

Dosing Philosophy: Start Low, Increase Slowly

Jamie explains the importance of gradual titration — especially for individuals with mood issues or methylation impairments. Rapid increases can lead to irritability, fatigue or “overmethylation” symptoms in some users. Starting low and increasing over time allows the body to adapt.

Functional medicine practitioners often recommend beginning with lower doses and increasing based on symptoms and clinical goals.

Clean Ingredients + Small Tablet Design

Unlike large, filler-heavy tablets (such as Deplin), Methyl-Life®’s tablets are:

  • Small, chewable and tasty
  • Free from dyes, gluten, soy, dairy, GMOs and animal products
  • Designed to deliver 5 mg in a tablet smaller than a pinch of sugar

This product contains no unnecessary excipients or synthetic additives.

Every batch is third-party tested for:

  • Purity
  • Potency
  • Identity

Manufactured in an NSF-certified, cGMP-compliant facility, Methyl-Life® sets the standard for clinical-grade supplementation.

Why Pill Size Matters

Jamie explains that many pharmaceutical brands design large pills to enhance the placebo effect — assuming patients associate “big” with “strong.” But Methyl-Life® takes the opposite approach: smaller, cleaner, natural tablets packed with clinical efficacy and minimal filler.

This design delivers the same therapeutic dose with none of the fluff — maximizing absorption and minimizing unnecessary ingredients.
