What is IBS?
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common gastrointestinal disorder that causes abdominal pain and changes in bowel function. Bowel activity can fluctuate between overactive (diarrhea) and underactive (constipation).1
IBS is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders, affecting around 7-16% of the US population.2 Symptoms have been linked to impaired gut-brain interaction and tend to overlap with other functional gastrointestinal conditions such as dyspepsia and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).3 IBS can have a major impact on normal life, social activities, and work.
